Christmas Adverts – Which is the greatest?

Back at Halloween I did an article all about marketing misfires. With Christmas just around the corner, I thought now is the perfect time to look at good Christmas adverts. So grab your Christmas jumpers and get some coco as I take you through some of my favourite ads.

Aldi – Kevin the Carrot

Aldi seemed to hit it big with Kevin the Carrot in 2016. His design and story about finding true love along with the narration of Jim Boradbent seems to have caught the British public’s attention. Every Christmas since there has been an escalation and continuing story of Kevin and his family. It’s sweet and wholesome whilst also making people feel really guilty about eating their carrots. While I can’t remember specific ads it wouldn’t feel right without them.

Score: 7/10 Snowballs

John Lewis

Here in the UK, the brand John Lewis has built itself a reputation as doing fantastic Christmas adverts. They become a highlight of the season and seem to hit on what the season is all about whilst telling really nice stories. The first one I really remember sticking in my mind is their 2015 one with the man on the moon. Every year there is a great deal of excitement towards it and it generally gets trending on twitter.

Score: 8/10 Snowballs

Santa and Cola

Coca Cola

For many people the Christmas season doesn’t start until they see the Coca Cola Christmas advert. To be honest I can’t blame them. Since 1995 this advert has played on our TV’s even when they have another ad running alongside it, they will still use this one! The really powerful thing is that they have for the most part kept it the same, maybe updating it here and there. Yes I know they took it off air from 2001 – 2007 but it was brought back by popular demand. If that’s not a powerful ad, then I don’t know what is.

Score: 10/10 Snowballs
