One Year in Lockdown – What I’ve learned

On the day I’m writing this article, the UK is marking one whole year since we first went into Lockdown. That year has seen unprecedented change and the shifting of whole modes of thinking. The human cost alone in terms of people dead or infected and the mental health issues surrounding the whole issue. The past year has given us all a chance to re-evaluate our lives. When it came to my business, it has given me the chance to look at where I need to improve. Here’s some of what I’ve done to further my career.

Courses

With the lockdown I found myself with a lot of free time on my hands. Like many at first I treated it like a mini-holiday. Then it kept getting extended and stuff I was doing to pass the time didn’t really cut it any longer. Deciding to be productive I’ve since gone and completed courses to supplement or deepen the knowledge I had. They’ve ranged from content writing, SEO, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. All are things that are useful and needed. While in some cases I knew a fair amount, taking those courses helped me get a firmer grip on them.

Lockdown Planning

Lockdown gave me plenty of time to plan and research. When I wasn’t doing the courses I looked into what I needed to really start getting things off the ground. It was all in the effort to try and hit the ground running when restrictions eased. The thing I hadn’t counted on was how inter-connected everything was. At first my time at first was trying to figure out where things fitted what was contingent on what. Once I figured that out I started to plan ad campaigns, social media strategies and blogs. I spent literal weeks planning how everything was going to work in the long and short term. That period has helped inform how I approach situations since things were constantly changing so I learned how to pivot and amend what I needed

Resolutions

Breathing room

As I mentioned above, mental health issues have been a big part of the problems people have faced. I’ve not been immune to that. I’ve found that making time to clear my head and get away from it even for a little has helped. Going for walks have been a massive help for me since it allows me to de-clog my mental bandwidth. I think many people have found really good ways to give themselves that all important breathing room in lockdown. By doing it, they’ve found passion’s they may have forgotten or never knew they had.

Those are just some of the things I’ve learned or taken time for during lockdown. What about you? How have you used the time? Let us know in the comment section!
